What should migrants do if they want to open their own business?
Migrants who are already in Germany and who have a residence permit [Aufenthaltserlaubnis] can ask for a permit for self-employment at the Foreigners Registration Office [Ausländerbehörde].
The decision if a migrant gets a permit for self-employment depends on several different factors: first of all there has to be an economic interest or regional need. Additionally the business activity has to have a positive effect on the German economy. Furthermore the financing of the implementation has to be guaranteed. Therefore the Foreigners Registration Office will contact some other departments of the municipality and the professional associations such as e.g. the Chamber of Commerce.
